Cardamom is a rare and costly spice that is traded in Thailand. Two distinct kinds exist: The Thai cardamom we use is round and has a spherical shape. It is largely grown in Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia. the western part of the globe. Trees in the region of Khao Soi Dao are Thailand’s principal source of output.

The cardamom in thai grown and harvested in the province of Chanthaburi, Thailand, is of exceptional quality and in great demand. You can also get cardamom from Surat Thani and Songkhla in the south, but they don’t compare to the quality of cardamom from Chanthaburi.

The Elettaria cardamomum plant is oval in form. In contrast to its Thai counterpart, cardamom is grown in India, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Guatemala.

Cardamom Characteristics

Cardamom Tree is a rhizomatous herbaceous plant. It stands around 2 meters tall with overlapping leaf sheaths that give it the appearance of a trunk. The thai cardamom pods plant prefers to grow in the shadow or beneath the shade of trees that have a lot of moisture. It is commonly found along the mountainsides in the rainforest, or where it rains and is at least 800 feet above sea level.

Cardamom Leaf is single leaf. The look of long and thin leaves is similar. It is 15-25 centimeters in length and has a pointed tip.

Cardamom Fruit is quite round and come in bunches of 10-20. The fruit is white with a silky skin. It looks like a three-lobed lobe. Hairs cover the tender fruit. Longitudinal stripes go through the bark. From the bottom to the top, form a line. The fruit is about 10mm in diameter and 6-15mm long, both the head and the end of the fruit have corks. The fruit will fall off when it is old. The mature fruit will crack. There are many seeds inside.

Cardamom Seeds are white. It matures to a black or burned brown color. The fruit and seeds have a distinct scent like the scent of camphor which hot and spicy.
