Streamed Sticky Rice or Khao Tom Mud is one of the Thai desserts and it is a dessert that has been with Thai traditions for a long time. Made with fried sticky rice and coconut milk then wrapped in banana leaves or young coconut leaves, put the banana filling, steamed until cooked.
In the south, glutinous rice and coconut milk are used, wrapped in banana leaves, called wrapped in boiled water, if wrapped in coconut leaves and tied with ropes, called wrapped in bundles. Snacks similar to rice porridge are also found in other countries, such as the Philippines called Ibos or Suman, which can be divided into many types like Thai rice porridge.
Khao Tom Mud is known by several names in different parts of Thailand; for example, In the north, it is known as “Khao Tom Pud” and in the central area, it is known as Khao Tom Mud which is named after the way it is wrapped and knotted into petals using banana leaves. The southern portion of the country, particularly Nakhon Si Thammarat, is known as “Nice wrapped bananas” because of the way the sticky rice is wrapped in a banana and then wrapped in another layer of banana leaf. Furthermore, the rice porridge is wrapped in a cone with Krathong leaves in some areas.
Khao Tom Mud is a popular Thai delicacy that is frequently consumed as a dessert brought to a merit-making ceremony. Some people prepare black bean filling. Some people prepare banana fillings, while others make “Jelly Sticky Rice” without the filling.
